Symbolism
Dark blue and gold are the colors traditionally associated with the United States Navy. The grid-lined globe alludes to the global aspect of the Development Center and the community-centric training across all warfare areas. The three-pronged trident represents the dominance at sea and the three areas in which the Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center will influence Naval Surface Forces: Tactics, Training, and Doctrine. This mission is also reflected in the motto, TACTICS, TRAINING, DOCTRINE. The surface warfighting ship cutting through the ocean alludes to the Surface Warfare Officer insignia and is a reminder of the qualifications met to serve as a surface warfare commander. The sword and cutlass represent the various ranks of staff personnel and the service members they train.
